Prince is that you?
Been listening to the "FLA beats soul-to-soul" tape that my auntie Martha made circa 1988, mostly for this song, waiting patiently for it to come around on the tape, enjoying my helplessness in dictating when I would be able to hear it. Without iTunes in front of me, I assumed I was also helpless in figuring out what any of the songs on the tape were... then I started singing this one under my breath all day long... presto! "That's Prince! If I Was Your Girlfriend!" And it just so happened that I already had the song on my computer, deposited there by an ardent Prince fan four years ago and flying under my radar until NOW. Now I am anything but helpless and I am listening to it constantly. Incidentally, I simultaneously misplaced the tape - a seemingly impossible feat when I never remove it from the tape player...
Damn, listen to that whip crack.

Ah, I should have guessed that if I followed the threads back far enough I would stumble upon this- of course!
May I say- about the video- the fellow working so hard to synch lips with the lyrics is a bit disconcerting [I was expecting Prince].
