world music week(end)

After my Friday night markedly improved with the addition of some Mali music, I realized that I need to diversify. My anxiety-soaked mind just hasn't been inspired by much lately. Enter groovy foreign beats!

On Sunday I bought two records: Segun Adewale (Nigeria) and Foxy Brown (Jamaica, not Brooklyn). The spacey graying cashier told me to have a "happy world music weekend." It was late Sunday afternoon...
but with world music, it's always the weekend!

today my mind is like a woonerf, but i'm not sure who has priority

this video embodies the elements that make up my day (so far):
  • an urban scene in 1906
  • good writing music
  • procrastination via trolling various blogs

pattern recognition

About two years ago now I was listening almost exclusively to Hot Chip. It was the same time of year (very early spring), I bought Made in the Dark and it was always playing - in the car, in the house, in my head. I dreamt of them frequently. A typical dream sequence: I'm wearing an ordinary outfit (jeans, corduroy jacket), walking down the street, and suddenly all members of Hot Chip are lounging in doorways or on the beach, in sunglasses and "cool clothes" and they (one of them, they become indistinguishable) says to me "Hey, you look great." I casually smile and go on, but my heart swells with pride and joy. The end.

This new album makes me want to throw a party. I vow to wait until June.

P.S. My devotion reminds me of my mother's lifelong crush on Bruce Springsteen.
